P-51 “Skipper’s Darlin’ III” Low Top Canvas Shoes
This design is based on the P-51 Mustang “Skipper’s Darlin’ III” as flown by Captain Andrew “Jug” Turner of the famous 332nd Fighter Group also known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Turner flew 69 missions while serving with and commanding the 100th Fighter squadron. Sadly, at only 27 years old he was later killed in an aircraft accident at Lockbourne Air Force Base, Ohio, when his Republic P-47 Thunderbolt collided with another. For his service he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and the Congressional Gold Medal.
