Major William Barker VC, DSO & Bar, MC & Two Bars was a Canadian fighter pilot and the most decorated war hero in Canadian history. Serving in the Royal Flying Corps and later the Royal Air Force during World War I, Barker was credited with 50 aerial victories during 900 hours in combat. His most famous battle occurred on October 27, 1918, when he single-handedly fought against a large formation of enemy aircraft, despite being severely wounded. For his extraordinary bravery, he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Barker’s legacy remains as one of the greatest fighter aces of the war.
