Hawker Typhoon RB396 is one of the most famous surviving examples of the Hawker Typhoon, a British World War II fighter-bomber. Built in 1944, RB396 saw action with the Royal Air Force, flying 35 combat sorties. On April 1, 1945, the aircraft was severely damaged by enemy fire and force-landed north-west of Denekamp on the Dutch/German border. The pilot survived and evaded capture, but RB396 became one of many battlefield relics littering the European theatre.Â
A dedicated restoration project began in 2012 to bring RB396 back to airworthy condition. The restoration, led by the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group, aims to return RB396 to flight as a tribute to the bravery of Typhoon pilots and the aircraft’s crucial role in the war.
