VAQ-130 “Zappers” High Top Canvas Shoes
VAQ-130, known as the “Zappers,” is a U.S. Navy electronic attack squadron that operates the EA-18G Growler. Established in 1959, VAQ-130 holds the distinction of being the Navy’s oldest electronic warfare squadron. The squadron originally flew the EA-1E Skyraider in the electronic reconnaissance role before transitioning to the EA-6B Prowler and, later, the EA-18G Growler.
The “Zappers” have a long history of excellence in electronic warfare, playing key roles in various conflicts, including the Vietnam War, Gulf War, and more recent operations in the Middle East. Their primary mission is to suppress enemy air defenses (SEAD) by jamming radar and communications, thereby protecting U.S. and allied aircraft. VAQ-130 has earned multiple awards for its operational effectiveness, including the prestigious Battle “E” for battle efficiency 3 times.
