“KIWI II” was a Supermarine Spitfire flown by Wing Commander Alan Deere DSO, OBE, DFC & Bar, a New Zealand-born RAF ace, during World War II. Deere became one of the most celebrated fighter pilots, credited with 22 aerial victories. Known for his exceptional combat skills and survival instincts, Deere named his aircraft “KIWI II” to reflect his New Zealand heritage. He flew it during critical operations, including the Battle of Britain, further cementing his legacy as one of the RAF’s top aces of the war.
